余杭是中国“三十大竹乡”之一，尤其以位于其西北端的百丈镇的毛竹闻名。竹在中国历史文化发展和精神文化形成中产生了巨大的作用，其与中国诗歌书画、园林建设也有着源远流长的关系。竹与人民的生活息息相关，其使用涉及衣、食、住、行、用各个方面。在传统的竹工艺中，能将竹劈成薄厚均匀的篾、粗细匀称的丝，竹的清香和形态也给人以自然觞曲的印象。

　　制作纸伞的过程中，设计师发现了这种工艺：利用竹子长纤维的特性,配以特种竹种,进行制作，达到利于造型的极致细丝。
